Background
Ritsuka was once a very happy and social child, until, at the age of 10, he suffered some kind of shock that seemed to change his personality completely. Instead of being more devoted to his social life then his schoolwork, he began to focus much more on his academics and less on his friends, almost to the point where he had none at all.
These were not the only changes he went through; he was much more solemn in general, acting very withdrawn. This scared his mother terribly, causing her to demand "her Ritsuka" back. Eventually, she became so frustrated that she began beating her child. Ritsuka's only defense at the time was his older brother, Seimei. Shortly after the beatings started, he began seeing a therapist.
However, things soon got worse...and quickly. Towards the end of Ritsuka's fifth grade year, his brother was murdered, and, making the situation even more horrible - his burnt corpse was found in Ritsuka's desk, and without Seimei, the frequency of his mother's violence increased.
Soon, Ritsuka's therapist deemed it necessary to send him to somewhere safe where he could get better help than she provided...so here he is, at Malaise House.
